What is URL
URL is Uniform Resource Locator. In simple, URL is the global address of a document or other resource on the World Wide Web (abbreviated as www). In simple, URL is the address of a website, webpage or web resource. There are different types of URLs depending on the URL protocol.
URL Examples
The following is the URL examples:
http://www.chesselo.com [website, HTTP URL protocol]
http://www.chesselo.com/recipr_links.html [webpage, HTTP URL protocol]
http://www.website-opener.chesselo.com/Websetup.exe [web resource, HTTP URL protocol]
https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal [webpage, HTTPS URL protocol]
ftp://ftp.itsinternet.net [website, FTP URL protocol]
What is URL Protocol
Imagine that in Washington all computer within the network "can speak only English." Imagine that in Moscow all computer within the network "can speak only Russian." Imagine that in Beijing all computer within the network "can speak only Chinese." You may already guess what is going next:
All three cannot understand each other, but all computers within their networks can understand one another... URL protocol is a special language used by computers to communicate between. There are many URL protocols (Gopher, IMAP, Telnet, POP3), but the main are HTTP/HTTPS and FTP.
HTTP/HTTPS are HyperText Transfer Protocol/HyperText Transfer Protocol Secured. They are the most common. When you browse the web, usually your URLs start with http or https. If you buy online, you should check that URL of the Buy Now page starts with https.
HTTPS is a guarantee that nobody can intrude from outside and steal your data. FTP is File Transfer Protocol. FTP URL protocol is used to upload or download files over the web. Mostly, it is used by webmasters to update their websites with the content files or media files.
Usually, the webmasters secure FTP URL by setting a secure password to get access to the FTP resource. There are also public FTP URLs, not secured. HTTP/HTTPS and FTP URLs can be open by web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, etc). There are also FTP programs to open FTP URLs.
URL Structure
URL has its own structure and consists of several parts as shown below:
protocol://www.domain name/resource path[and/or]additional parameters Some websites can be open without "www." Example: http://google.com.
See the URL examples below and understand the URL structure of each: http://www.chesscalculatorprogram.com/play_chess.html http://www.chesscalculatorprogram.com/chess_book.html
http://link2me.com/index.cgi?menu=linksearch http://link2me.com/index.cgi?menu=linksearch&level0=Computers&level1=Software&limit=160 http://www.google.com/translate?langpair=en|es&u=http://www.chesselo.com
The web browser opens the protocol and domain parts of URL slightly quicker if they end in "/". For example, http://link2me.com/ will be open quicker than http://link2me.com (without "/"). It is true only for the protocol and domain portions of URL.
Is URL Case Sensitive
The protocol and domain name of URL are not case sensitive. The resource path portion of URL may be case sensitive on some servers. What does it mean? If you type into the address bar of your web browser http://www.google.com or http://www.Google.com, the browser
will correctly interpret the both URLs and open for you the Google website in the both cases. If original URL is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQITWbAaDx0&feature=fvst and you type http://www.youtube.com/WATCH?v=uqitwbaadxx0&FEATURE=FVST, the latter may not open.
To be open, URL must be correct. When preloading 24 buttons of Website Opener 2.17 with your URLs, you may use the copy and paste method. First, open the needed URL with a web browser, copy URL exactly as it is, and then paste it into the URL text box of Website Opener 2.17.
